Michael Johnsrud, Senior Vice President, designs and conducts studies in health economics and outcomes research to analyze how prescription drugs, medical devices, and various interventions impact resource utilization and patient quality of life.
Over the course of his career, Mike has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and developed a deep knowledge of prescription reimbursement policy in Medicaid, Medicare, and private-sector plans. Through his work, he has built a strong foundation and understanding in the economics of the marketplace for community pharmacy and prescription drug benefit programs.
Prior to joining Avalere, Mike was Associate Director of The Center for Pharmacoeconomic Studies at The University of Texas at Austin, where his research utilizing large prescription and medical administrative databases evaluated the impact of medication adherence on cost and clinical outcomes for patients with various disease states within Medicaid and private plans. Among his distinctions, Mike received an Award of Excellence from the Journal of Managed Care Pharmacy for research he conducted that used prescription drug claims to determine differences in medication payment and utilization between pharmacy delivery channels.
Mike received his B.S. in Pharmacy from The University of Iowa and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Pharmacy Administration from The University of Texas at Austin. He is a registered pharmacist.
