Coverage with Evidence Development and CMS-FDA Collaboration /

The Federal government is increasingly seeking data on what works and what does not in clinical practice. Join Avalere Health and senior ranking officials from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to learn how demand for clinical evidence is changing. To stimulate the generation of evidence, federal regulators are deploying novel approaches, such as Coverage with Evidence Development (CED), and collaboration between CMS and FDA is increasing. And as the government is poised to release a list of experts who will compose a new independent board to conduct comparative effectiveness research – how will this new group affect evidence requirements?

Join Avalere Health for a 60-minute interactive audio conference that will explore:

  • How has CED been applied by CMS, and has it met its evidence generation objectives?
  • Are regional variations exacerbated due to the CED framework?
  • Has CED promoted or hindered patient access to new services and technologies?
  • What roles have manufacturers, payers, providers, and patients played in implementing CED, and how has CED impacted these groups?
  • What new data sources does CMS rely on to understand the risks and benefits of technologies and services?
  • Could the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), an independent entity to conduct comparative effectiveness research created in health reform, look to CED to fulfill its mandate?
  • What role could CED play in an FDA/CMS parallel review process, as recently proposed?
