Tanisha Carino, Ph.D.,
Vice President,
Avalere Health

Tanisha Carino, Ph.D., Vice President, Avalere Health, leads Avalere’s Center on Evidence-Based Medicine.  She directs the firm’s strategic work that assesses current policies to redefine the clinical research enterprise, including investments in comparative effectiveness research.  A frequent contributor to health policy journals, Tanisha also focuses on the evolution of public and private payers’ use of evidence for formulating coverage and reimbursement decisions, and trends in quality improvement initiatives, specializing in the Medicare program.  Prior to joining Avalere, Carino was a policy analyst in the Coverage and Analysis Group at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, where she served as a methodological lead for national coverage determinations and assessments of potential clinical protocols.  As an Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality research fellow and Fulbright scholar, she developed expertise in health services research and the politics of U.S. and international coverage policies and health technology assessment.  Carino holds a B.A. from Emory University and a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University in Health Policy.
