Robert J. Heine,

Robert Heine joined Lilly in January of 2008 as the executive medical director for
Diabetes and Endocrine. Until then he was professor of Diabetology in the Department
of Endocrinology as well as director of the Diabetes Centre at the VU University Medical
Center in Amsterdam. Dr. Heine is involved in several research projects at the VU
University Medical Center.

Dr. Heine was awarded the Dr. F. Gerritzen Award for diabetes research in 1987, as well
as a Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in Edinburgh, the Albert E. Renold
Medal of the EASD for distinguished services in 2000 and the Juhling Award of Diabetes
Research in 2004 Furthermore, he has held several key positions within the EASD,
including honorary treasurer and member of the executive committee, and president of
the organizing committee for the EASD meeting that took place in Amsterdam in 2007.

Dr. Heine was associate editor of Diabetic Medicine and served as a member of several
editorial boards, including Metabolic Syndrome and Related Disorders and the
International Textbook of Diabetes Mellitus, 3rd Edition, and was the editor of the Dutch
diabetes book, Handboek Diabetes Mellitus 3e edition. He has (co)authored more than
350 peer reviewed papers and reviews.

Dr. Heine earned his MD and PhD at the Medical School of the VU University Medical
Center in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
