Diabetes Forum 2009 / Presented by: Currently, the United States spends more than $174 billion annually to care for approximately 21 million residents diagnosed with diabetes. By 2025, the number of people with diabetes is expected to double, putting increased emphasis on the need for integrated, forward-thinking, patient-centered prevention, disease management, and treatment efforts. 2009 will be an instrumental year in redefining policy priorities as the Obama Administration works to set a new trajectory for healthcare spending in this country. Everybody – policymakers, care providers, payers, patients, and industry leaders – will face difficult spending decisions, and it is crucial that diabetes advocates have a clear understanding of where their issues fit into the future of health reform. Avalere Health is committed to facilitating continued dialogue around how diabetes can inform these important discussions. We hope you will participate in the dialogue, as well. Scheduled during the pivotal first 100 days of the Obama Administration and new Congress, this event will emphasize how diabetes will influence the emerging health policy debate amid shifting political and fiscal priorities, and how diabetes advocates can ensure that their priorities gain traction during this critical policy window. Listen to Fran Kaufman, Director, Center for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles and Former President, American Diabetes Association, discuss diabetes in the U.S. today.
