Michael S. Katz
Mike is an 18 year survivor of multiple myeloma. He is a Patient Consultant for FDA, Vice President of the International Myeloma Foundation(IMF), Co-Chair of the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Patient Representative Committee and past chair of the NCI's Directors Consumer Liaison Group as well as the Association of Cancer Online Resources (ACOR.)

Mike served as Chairman of the National Cancer Institute’s Director’s Consumer Liaison Group, as well as co-chair of the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) Patient Representative Committee. He also serves as a Patient Consultant for the Food and Drug Administration. He has been involved in web-based research on drug safety and quality of life issues.

Most recently, working through ECOG, Mike was one of the leads in developing a trial that found superior survival with lower steroid doses. He also played a lead role in the IMF’s web-based survey that confirmed the link between bisphosphonates and Osteonecrosis of the Jaw. He played a lead role in the development of the IMF’s web site and its "Myeloma Manager™ Personal Care Assistant™," a software tool distributed free of charge to help patients and caregivers manage their personal medical data. Mike serves as a member of the Management Committee for the IMF’s Bank on a Cure® program.

Working with a fellow patient, June Brazil, Mike started the ACOR myeloma and amyloidosis listservs, which now have over 2500 members. He also leads two in-person support groups in the New York Metropolitan area.

Mike has degrees in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science and Business from Columbia University.
