Richard A. Frank, MD, PhD, FFPM (RCP)
In the pharmaceutical industry Dr Frank conducted more than 100 clinical trials across all therapeutic areas and has gained regulatory approval for 4 drugs in the US and EU in addition to clinical pharmacology labeling for a wide range of drugs. He built one of the first Translational Medicine Departments in the pharmaceutical industry, including clinicians, statisticians and technologists in disciplines ranging from Gene Banking and in vitro diagnostics to radiology and nuclear medicine.
Richard joined GE in 2003 as the Chief Clinical Scientist at their Global Research Center in Niskayuna, NY, and is the author of a paper in Nature Reviews in Drug Discovery on the utility of diagnostics as biomarkers in the development of novel therapeutics. He is active in collaborations with the NIH, FDA, and pharmaceutical companies. In August of 2004, Richard was promoted to Vice President, Global Medical Affairs and Clinical Strategy for GE Healthcare, where he has built the clinical trials program and gained approval for a number of novel imaging devices in the US and EU including mammography and colonography products.
Richard is a past president of the Society of Non-invasive Imaging in Drug Development [a council of the Academy of Molecular Imaging] and now chairs; a) the Pharma workgroup of the Molecular Imaging Center of Excellence of the SNM1: b) the FDG-PETCT workgroup of the RSNA Quantitative Imaging Biomarkers Alliance2: and c) the Institute of Molecular Technology (a council of the AMI). Richard serves on various Institute of Medicine working groups, medical advisory boards, and editorial boards including Molecular Imaging and Biology. He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine, Royal College of Physicians.
