As Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer for CVS Caremark, Jan Berger, M.D., is a member of the leadership team that sets the clinical strategy for the organization. She is also responsible for clinical appropriateness and consistency across all patient and provider touch points. The team of physicians, pharmacists and nurses within Dr Berger’s lead activities are associated with CVS Caremark’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee and support activities associated with retail services, governmental and lobbyist activities, and technology initiatives, which include e-prescribing and Internet activities, product development, Medicare Part D, and disease and health management. Dr. Berger has also taken a leadership role in representing CVS Caremark at a variety of national health care policy forums. Dr. Berger joined Caremark in August 1999.

Prior to coming to CVS Caremark, Dr. Berger had 15 years of experience in health care administration within the health plan and administrative arenas.  Dr. Berger is a board-certified pediatrician with clinical experience in private practice, managed care, and academic medicine.

Considered a national health care thought leader, Dr. Berger speaks and writes on a wide variety of health care issues. She also serves on numerous health care boards and committees, on editorial advisory boards of several health care journals and has published over 100 articles and publications.

Dr. Berger is a “black belt” in Six Sigma, designating her as a team leader responsible for implementing process improvement projects within business to increase customer satisfaction and business productivity.

Dr. Berger holds both a M.D. and a M.J. from Loyola University in Chicago and has taken numerous courses in business management.  She is also an assistant professor at Northwestern University School of Medicine in Evanston, Illinois.
